Autumnal Floral

Jumper - Zara (similar), Skirt - ASOS, Boots - Topshop (similar)

Back to an outfit post. Not the most interesting look today, but a nice transitional outfit from summer through autumn. This gorgeous skater skirt is currently in the sale so snap it up quick! It is a complete bargain and I was actually complemented on it several times today so it mustn't be just me that likes it. I just threw on a vest and a jumper with the skirt as I wanted to be relatively comfortable for my first day back at lectures. The Topshop boots are also super comfy; I've actually had them for over a year but they have worn well and lasted nicely so I'm sure the ones I've linked above would be just as good.

I'm sorry about the slightly "dead behind the eyes" picture today. I had actually just been given some information about what my dissertation is to entail and lets just say I wasn't enthralled by it! Some days just don't go our way do they?!

Going Out Make Up #1

First off, sorry about the grossly oversized photo of my face but I figured if I was going to talk through a make-up look then I probably should have one. I wore this make-up for a night out last week (of which, the outfit post is just below) and thought, just to mix things up a bit, I would show you what products I used. It's quite a simple look, as I didn't want to have both smokey eyes and a strong lip colour.

Face
I always start off by applying my base, which in this case consisted of Benefit's The Porefessional (not pictured) and Revlon PhotoReady foundation. The Porefessional is my absolute favourite primer as it makes my skin feel silky smooth and only a minuscule amount is required which means the tube lasts for ages. I don't really wear it day-to-day as I don't feel my skin needs it, but for a night out I always think a primer is a necessity to make sure my foundation lasts. The PhotoReady foundation is perfect for going out as it does exactly what it says on the tin - makes your skin "photo ready"; the foundation achieves this by using photo chromatic particles which diffuse the light. These particles look a bit like glitter if you look at your face close-up when you've got the foundation on but it doesn't look OTT.

For both my going-out make up and my every day make up I tend to use Bourjois Delice de Poudre Bronzer to do a bit of contouring and to make me look a little bit more sun kissed. To be honest, I haven't quite mastered the art of contouring, but having pinned so many contouring tutorials on Pinterest I should soon be a pro!

The blusher I have recently started using is by So Susan and I actually received it free in a GlossyBox. It's really nicely pigmented and adds a lovely rosy glow to your cheeks. To finish off the look I just dusted over Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder; in hindsight I probably should have piled this on as I am looking rather shiny in the photo haha.

Eyes
I didn't really do much with my eyes. I dotted a little bit of Rimmel Scandaleyes Shadow Stick in the inner corners of my eyes which is supposed to make them look bigger...I'm not totally convinced this works but hey, it looks kinda pretty. I then lined my eyes with the best liquid eyeliner around, L'oreal Superliner Black Laquer and did a mini cat-eye flick. My eyebrows, which desperately need threading, were set in place by Maybelline Brow Drama which is the best eyebrow mascara I have found. I didn't fill them in with anything on this occasion but I often use the HD Eye & Brow Palette. I finished off my eyes with a slick of Maybelline Colossal Go Extreme Mascara which is super volumising, having already curled my lashes with eyelash curlers.

Lips
I finished off the whole look with one of my favourite lipsticks, Topshop's Beguiled. I have a rather hefty collection of Topshop lipsticks and I love their formula. It is quite matt but also applies smoothly without completely drying out your lips. Before applying this, I lined and filled in my lips with Topshop's lip liner in Deception which is quite a good match for the lipstick.

So! There we have it, they are all the make up products I used for this look. I hope you enjoyed this post, I just thought it would make a bit of a change to the usual outfit posts and I am hoping to add a lot more beauty/lifestyle posts to the blog. What are your go-to going out make-up products?

LBC

Top - ASOS, Skirt - Missguided, Shoes - Similar

OK so the LBD is still a 'thing', but the LBC (little black co-ordinate (yes, I made this up)) is hot on it's heels to becoming another staple in any girls wardrobe. Easy to dress up or down and to switch around with different items of clothing, it is fast becoming a must-have. Strictly speaking I suppose this isn't actually a co-ordinate as the skirt and top are from different shops and the skirt has mesh detail but meh it's close enough for me! I really love this skirt as it sits at just the right length; I find that midi skirts that end half way down my calves are not at all flattering on my figure. Also the organza layer gives the illusion that the skirt is shorter than it is while not showing off too much flesh.

These shoes are an absolute dream as the silver colour really adds another dimension to the outfit but they are not so "out there" that they're all people are looking at. Unfortunately this exact pair from ASOS is no longer in stock but I have linked a similar-ish, silver pair above.

I would like to apologise for the lack of background in this photo; myself and my housemate Robyn were umm-ing and ahh-ing about where the best place to take photos would be as it was dark outside and unfortunately our university house is lacking in interesting back drops so we thought a plain wall would probably be the best. In hindsight we probably should have attempted outside photos first, just because a bit of nice scenery really makes the photo so much better but ah well! Too late now. As well as taking photos for me, Robyn also let me borrow her room as it was the only one with a big white space. Thanks Rob!

I was thinking about maybe doing a future post on what make-up products I use for a night out - opinions?!

Is It Still Summer?!

Top - Zara, Skirt - Topshop, Ballet Pumps - Topshop, Watch - Marc Jacobs

Today I woke up and could not believe it when I looked out of my window onto Selly Oak and saw just how sunny it was. Stepping outside on my way to the gym I was even happier when I realised that not only was it sunny but it was also WARM. Wow, England, you really are somehow clinging on to summer. Anyway, I thought it would be shame if I didn’t also cling onto summer by being as summery as possible by baring my legs and obviously wearing white.

This skirt was a beginning of summer purchase and has fared me well throughout July and August. Unfortunately I may or may not have shrunk it on it’s first wash so it is now a bit too short but I have continued to wear it anyway because it is just too gorgeous not too. I paired it with a grey t-shirt from Zara as this is just a wardrobe essential if you ask me, as are my pink satin ballet pumps from Topshop. Not sure how well they will fare in Autumn/Winter though.

Unfortunately, upon my return to university over the weekend I completely forgot to bring any sunglasses with me as I was clearly being pessimistic and thinking I wouldn’t need them. How wrong I was! So I have had to borrow my boyfriend’s Rayban’s but I figured that this was fair game seen as I bought them for him! Rayban clubmaster’s are such a classic and I would have bought a pair for myself if I hadn’t been quite so conscious of the fact that we might have looked like we tried to “co-ordinate”  our outfits whenever we go out. We aren’t quite Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears just yet.

The Perfect Plaid

Top - Topshop, Skirt - ASOS, Shoes - New Look, Shirt - Monki

After months of searching for a plaid shirt I have finally found my saviour in the form of this little number from Monki. Admittedly, it spends most of its time wrapped around my waist but I'm sure as summer turns into Autumn it'll have its time to shine as an actual shirt. This summer I have often taken to wrapping a shirt around my waist just to liven up an all black outfit or to try and make an outfit less body-con. The shoes from New Look are a mega bargain and are really comfortable so I advise anyone reading this to snap them up quick! There's no point spending a small fortune on plimsolls from Topshop or River Island when the New Look shoe department is so good.

I wore this outfit to go for a casual dinner with my friends from home for one last catch up before we all head back to different universities  We went to a lovely little restaurant called The Blacksmiths Arms which is local to wear we all live. We stuffed our faces with bread, risottos and burgers and it was all delicious. The shirt was definitely needed then to cover up my bloated, too-full tummy but it was totally worth it! Here's a picture of the beautiful girls themselves, aren't they lush?!

Daisy Chains

Dress - Missguided, Leather jacket - All Saints, Shoes - Office

September in England is such an awkward time for deciding on outfits. Am I going to be too hot/too cold? Bare legs or tights?! Well, today I decided to risk it and go back to being in full on summer mode for an evening out (apart from the leather jacket of course, but I'm not THAT risky).

I ordered this gorgeous dress a while a go from Missguided and absolutely love it. I'm not all that adventurous with colour so any monochrome outfit is good with me, and the scalloped back detail is really unusual. I thought I could probably also make this dress work in winter too with some tights and boots. As for the shoes I am wearing, they are a super comfortable pair of espadrille wedges (see, told you I was in summer mode still) from Office. Unfortunately the black pair are not in store anymore but I have linked the tan pair above which are in the sale. I paired the dress with my trusty All Saints leather jacket which I was given as a Christmas present. All Saints really do do the best leather pieces and this jacket basically goes with everything so I am besotted.

Double Denim

Shirt - ASOS, Jeans - ASOS, Watch - Marc Jacobs, Rings - H&M, Shoes - ASOS

Eek! First outfit post time! Today was just a day of mooching round Nottingham with my mum on a search for new clothes so I knew I needed to dress fairly comfy. I am the biggest fan of ASOS out there and today I think it is fair to say I am fully ASOS-ed out! I absolutely love the look of denim on denim but scarcely wear it. These jeans are the stretchiest and therefore the comfiest things I have worn in a long time (unless we're counting jogging bottoms which actually ARE the world's comfiest trouser aside from PJ bottoms) and the shirt was a complete bargain.

I didn't accessorise much today but I adore these leopard print slip ons as they really just add something extra to what could be somewhat of a boring outfit. I nearly always also wear my Marc by Marc Jacobs rose gold watch both for practicality and to add a bit of "bling" to my outfit haha. I think this may be one of the last times this year I can go out for the day without either a coat or an umbrella but to be honest I quite like wrapping up so I'm not complaining.

Welcome!

Welcome to my little space on the world wide web! I thought my first post should be a bit of an introduction of myself as well as a round up of what I am hoping this blog will be. So, where to begin?

Well, my name is Beth and I’m a 21 year old chemistry student at university  in Birmingham. However, my hobbies and interests lie far from chemicals (unless we are talking about make-up of course). This blog will basically be an outlet for me to express my interests in different aspects of my life such as fashion, food, fitness and just general lifestyle. I am new to the blogging game so please bare with me when it comes to any mistakes I might make!

Oh and if you were wondering where the blog name came from, quite simply it is a copycat of my Instagram name (@bdazzle) that I made up when I was in sixth form at school. Pretty cool, huh? haha
